You heard it here first: months of threatening to write that critical reading of Penny Dreadful paid off!! A revised version of the article I presented on GANZA, now titled "'I Know What I Am. Do You?': Asexuality as Frustration of Destiny and the Devil in Penny Dreadful," will appear in volume 9, issue 1 of Aeternum: The Journal of Contemporary Gothic Studies!!! This is my first published academic article, and I'm so excited that it's something that represents my niche scholarly interests so accurately.

Bébé's first conference!! Back in November, the Gothic Association of New Zealand and Australia (GANZA) accepted my abstract about an asexual critical reading of Penny Dreadful, and today I got to present that paper, "What Death Can(not) Join Together: Asexuality as Frustration of Destiny and the Devil," at GANZA's interim conference!! It was a fantastic experience and I got to listen to so many other fascinating papers from fellow Gothic scholars!

Wow, it's been a big week!! I'm incredibly excited to announce that the opening of my young adult novel-in-progress, Slow Notes Toward a Symphony of Longing, was selected as the first-place winner of Voyage YA’s Summer 2021 First Chapters Contest! Stay tuned for a link to read it — it will be up on the Voyage site soon!
Additionally, I've had a paper accepted for the 2022 Gothic Association of New Zealand and Australia (GANZA) Conference! This coming January, I will be presenting "What Death Can(not) Join Together: Asexuality as Frustration of Destiny and the Devil in Penny Dreadful" at their virtual conference. I'm so thrilled — I've never presented an academic paper before, and this one includes all my favorite axes to grind: asexual theory, Gothic interpretations of the queer other, and the art of queer failure.
